Friendly Fire

At any time an attack would logically be at risk for harming an ally the attack will be made at disadvantage to reflect the extra care taken to avoid hitting the ally. If this attack is a fumble a second attack roll is made (without advantage or disadvantage) to determine if the ally is hit. Examples of a “friendly fire” attack are:

  • Firing a missile weapon through allies
  • Attacking a creature grappling with an ally
  • Attacking a swarm of creatures occupying the same space as an ally
